EXCLUSIVE: Farmer Wants A Wife winner slams ‘childish’ act that has gone too far

FWAW's Sophie thinks Miranda has 'ulterior motives'.
Farmer Wants A Wife contestant criticises Miranda and season

Farmer Wants A Wife is quickly becoming Drama Wants A Wife this week, with loads of conflict dominating the recent episodes, namely between Farmer Zac’s women and Miranda.

It all kicked off when Miranda referred to Maya as ‘desperate’ in a conversation at the Country Ball, which was later fed back to (you guessed it) Maya.

In turn, Maya then relayed her concerns with Miranda’s ‘mean’ behaviour to Zac’s twin sister, Isobel, leading to a tense confrontation between Maya and Miranda, which ended with Grace and Maya fleeing in tears.

It was a dramatic scene that wouldn’t have been out of place in an episode of Married at First Sight. But is all this drama what the show should be about? Sophie Trethowan found love with Farmer Dustin Manwaring on the 2024 season of Farmer Wants A Wife, and said she thought some of the women’s antics had been ‘childish’ this year.

“I feel a few of the girls on this season are displaying behaviours that can simply be described as ‘childish’,” she said. “They don’t seem to have the self-awareness of how their words and actions impact those around them and are not taking accountability for their poor behaviour.”

Overall, Sophie believes the show is losing its way as the women have become too caught up in the drama. “There has definitely been lots of drama on this season so far and it seems the girls who have applied have forgotten the concept of the entire show,” she said.

“The farmers go on dates with other women! And yes, this does mean they have romantic connections with the other woman, including kissing and being affectionate. It is obviously hard to see and be a part of when you have developed feelings for the farmer, but that is the whole point of the show.”

Sophie Trethowan tells WHO what she thinks of divisive FWAW villain Miranda

Sophie admitted in an exclusive chat with WHO that she thinks Miranda could have ‘ulterior motives’ for doing Farmer Wants A Wife.

“I believe Miranda has ulterior motives for being on the show and isn’t afraid to upset people in the process,” she said. “Good on her for not being afraid to stand up for herself and speak her mind; however, I think it has gone too far.”

Sophie has also questioned why Miranda went on the show without wanting to make friends with the other women. “She says she is not on there to make any friends, however, statistically the odds are not in your favour to end up with the farmer at the end of it all,” she said. “One of the biggest things most of the girls do get from this experience is friendships. I still talk to all the girls on my farm from our season.”

Overall, Sophie said that FWAW has changed over time to keep up with the growing role of social media. “The show has definitely evolved a lot over the years from its humble beginnings that included no social media or ulterior motives to grow a social media platform or following,” she said.

“I do still believe the farmers and some of the girls are genuinely looking for love and going on their for the right reasons. However, I do feel it is becoming more and more dramatised and the show is becoming less genuine and wholesome!” she continued.

“I hope the show continues to highlight these love stories and not just showcase all the drama!”

Another ex-Farmer Wants A Wife criticises Miranda’s antics on the season

Sophie isn’t the only past contestant to take issue with some of Miranda’s ‘mean girl’ antics.

Former Farmer Wants A Wife contestant Keeley Rankin, who found love with Farmer Corey on the 2025 season, has had some harsh words about Miranda’s behaviour on the show.

“We are watching a lot of the ladies be quite uncomfortable with what Miranda is saying and how she’s behaving,” she told Woman’s Day. In a recap of an FWAW episode, Keeley noted that “Zac does appear to be becoming privy to Miranda’s drama, particularly with Maya.”

Farmer Wants A Wife viewers criticise this season for becoming MAFS

Sophie’s concerns that FWAW is shifting away from its wholesome roots is an opinion shared by a lot of viewers. Some have commented that FWAW is becoming another Married at First Sight.

“While I am the first to admit I do love a bit of drama to keep things interesting, I do hope they don’t start going down the Married At First Sight Australia route,” a viewer wrote on FWAW’s Instagram.

Some have gone as far as to describe the current season as ‘Temu MAFS‘, joked one viewer. “Why the drama FWAW? This is becoming a big, steamy Temu turd version of MAFS,” they wrote.

And the drama isn’t slowing down soon, as Sunday night’s episode looks set to be even more explosive!
