The Gossip Girl reboot, arguably one of the biggest TV series revivals yet (sorry Gilmore Girls), is upon us. And, we couldn’t be more excited.
WATCH: The first teaser for the Gossip Girl reboot is HERE!
The original series, based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, had us glued to our screens like the show’s protagonists to their iPhones, and this new incarnation by HBO Max, is already tracking the same trajectory.
“Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl,” the show’s synopsis reads.
“The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.”
We’re imagining an edgier more Euphoria-esque spin on the old favourite, which would be fitting given its release caused quite a stir back in 2007, mostly thanks to furious parents outraged at the sexual and salacious nature of the show.
While Kristen Bell returns as the infamous voice of the anonymous entity that is Gossip Girl, the show will focus on a new generation of teens played by Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith.
In this first official trailer for the reboot we can see our new lead characters mingling at an elite party as Gossip Girl says, “You’ve gotten so comfortable, thinking you’re in control of your image, your actions, the narrative but you forgot one thing: I can see you. And before I’m through I’ll make sure you see you too.”
Any deeper details on the reboot have been kept purposefully vague.
“My hope is that we make it to airing and people don’t know,” the reboot’s showrunner, Josh Safran, told Cosmopolitan.
What we do know is that anticipation is high and we’re not expecting to be let down by the big reveal. We also now know when (roughly) and most importantly where we can tune in down under.
Gossip Girl reboot will premiere on BINGE from July 8, so we recommend you sing yourself up to the streaming site ASAP – here.
