Dismissing all that happened in the (nine) franchise films that came between, this Halloween harks back only to the 1978 original, in which young babysitter Laurie Strode (a then 19-year-old Curtis) was terrorised by masked murderer Michael Myers.
Four decades on, Laurie is no unprepared ingenue, now spending every waking moment training for the worst to happen again. Daughter Karen (Greer) rebelled against this paranoia and brought up her own child, Allyson (Andi Matichak), with tales of crazy Laurie.
But when Myers escapes, the killing starts afresh, and three generations of Strode women must pull together for the fight of their lives. The film carves up all the expected oohs and boos, but with the involvement of original director John Carpenter and a trio of talented leading ladies, this Halloween is a slash above. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 (Out now)
