Luxe Listings Sydney is returning to our screens, and the show’s stars, real estate titans Gavin Rubinstein and D’Leanne Lewis, buyer’s agent Simon Cohen and newbie Monika Tu, sat down with WHO for a chat.
And true to form, there’s sledging, back-handed compliments and many pearls of wisdom.
D’Leanne and Gavin
D’Leanne, you keep such a cool head, no matter what the situation …
Maybe because I’m old? I turned 50 this year and I’ve had a lot of experience dealing with different people in this industry, mostly men, since I was 20. You don’t get anywhere by stamping your feet.
What do you guys think of newbie Monika? She’s a big personality!
Gavin: She’s my favourite. I was kind of apprehensive at the start, but after working with her, I thought this woman is great for the show.
D’Leanne, of the agents, who is your biggest competition?
There’s probably five guys I go up against a lot and Gavin’s one of them.
Tell me something you both like about each other …
Gavin: I think she’s very pretty.
D’Leanne: Wow. I was hoping you’d say my brain, Gav. What I like about Gavin is his competitiveness. I think it’s healthy.
What do you like least about each other?
Gavin: Don’t take it there. Please!
Monika and Simon
Simon, should Gavin be worried about Monika?
Monika is competition. I mean, she’s a great agent.
Who’s your favourite agent to deal with?
Simon: I can’t reveal a favourite because it would be very detrimental to my business [laughs].
Monkika: Simon Cohen. I think we work together really well, and we do some amazing deals. As a person, I think he’s my favourite because I love Jen, his mother, as we’re from the same generation.
How much profit have you guys turned over in your careers?
Monika: Billions! Billions! Again, I’m very young. I’ve only been working since 2009. I’ve done very well. I position myself with really expensive properties.
Simon: Billions. I started in 2009 and last year alone I turned $640 million.
Simon, you’re a catch. I can’t believe you’re not married by now. Though, I do have to ask, is buyer’s agent Tammy Soglanich the one that got away?
Absolutely not. Tammy is like my sister.
You guys have so much chemistry!
Simon: Everyone says that but no. We never have romances in the office. It’s a big no-no!
Monika: I can vouch for that! They’re really great friends.
