The behind-the-scenes detail that left MAFS groom Luke feeling ‘stagnant’

It was a bittersweet moment last night for MAFS fans watching Luke leave the experiment, with many pleased he was no longer battling along with Mel yet sad he would no longer be on our screens. However, Luke has revealed the toll of going on the show with a woman who didn’t provide “that much support” and the behind-the-scenes detail that exacerbated the issue.

Filming for this season of MAFS occurred last year between July and November, and since Luke and Mel choose to part ways only weeks into the experiment, Luke had a good six months of internalising what happened to him before the show went to air.

“I realised I have a bit of PTSD,” Luke told MAFS Unleashed. “I’ve been in this experiment with Mel and I wasn’t really treated nicely, and I feel like, that wrapped up and you got out into the real world and it’s stagnant.

“You don’t hear about anything. I must have suppressed a few of those emotions and feelings I felt.”

With contestants under strict non-disclosure agreements so plotlines aren’t leaked before the show goes to air, Luke felt “alone” in that time after filming and before the show started last month.

“It’s a bit of a shame… there was so much support around me, I couldn’t be as happy about that,” he said, speaking about fans rallying around him.

Bride Gia speaks about Mel acting differently around Luke

Throughout the time on the show, Luke “struggled to get through” to Mel and noticed a significant change in her behaviour when she was with other people compared to just alone with her husband.

In the first dinner party of the reason, Luke admitted to feeling “so uncomfortable” watching Mel get on with the other contestants and wondering why the pair couldn’t be friendly or share “banter” together.

It’s something that bride Gia even picked up on, telling WHO Mel is the “sweetest person” but that wasn’t portrayed in the relationship with Luke on-screen.

“We weren’t aware of all the stuff that was happening with her and Luke, she really didn’t tell us,” Gia told WHO.

Will Luke go on Farmer Wants A Wife?

The question on everyone’s lips is whether or not Luke will try find love on Farmer Wants A Wife, and while he admittedly hadn’t thought about it before, Luke isn’t opposed to it.

“I would never have actually thought about doing Farmer Wants A Wife, even though that probably sounds more fitting for me,” he told Pedestrian.TV.

“I’ve already seen some speculation, like ‘Why hasn’t he been on Farmer Wants A Wife?’ and I mean, I am a farmer, but I’m not just a farmer. I feel like there’s more to me than just the farm,” he said.
