But what do we know about John Aiken’s own love life?

After some investigating, we discovered the 55-year-old is married to a familiar face – and a stunning one at that!

“She is someone I am very grateful that I met,” John told 9Honey of Kelly Swanson-Roe, a glamorous former news reporter from New Zealand.

The couple, who share two children together, met across the ditch almost two decades ago. But Kelly’s backstory is a heartbreaking one.

How did John Aiken meet his wife Kelly?

John met Kelly in the years after her first husband, Jon Roe, was killed in a canoeing accident in Switzerland.

John first saw Kelly on the TV as a newsreader long before they met, and later introduced himself at an event where they first became friends. After sparks started flying, the pair married in January 2007.

John admitted to New Idea he lied to Kelly about having a work meeting to get her to Sydney so he could propose. He has also spoke freely about the importance of keeping the memory of her first husband Jon alive while the couple navigated their own marriage.

“She is a very resilient woman and quite inspiring to be around, someone who I look up to and who I have a lot of respect for,” he told 9Honey.

“Rather than saying, ‘No, I need to be separate with Kelly,’ I just said, ‘I’m going to bring her past partner into the relationship and really make him a part of it all.'”

The pair now share two children together and live in Sydney, with John giving up his private psychology practice to focus on MAFS and other media commitments.
