Married At First Sight’s Mishel was a stunner on her on-screen wedding day, but she looks almost unrecognisable in these new photos from her first wedding.
The 49-year-old reality star took to Instagram to share a loving tribute to her dad, and in doing so unearthed some fabulous vintage pics from her younger years.
Mishel shared five photos of herself and her late dad from two occasions where he “could not contain his emotions.”
When she won the Miss Macedonia pageant in 1988, the MAFS bride described it as their “highest moment together”, whilst her wedding day to her ex-husband was “one of his saddest days.”
“Dad was so proud when I was named Miss Macedonia (Brisbane) 1988. It is possible that I could of been the only girl that entered regardless I went on to a few more pageants with my Dad as my number one fan! You can see my Dad’s grin he was so proud of me that is such a beautiful memory,” she wrote.
On her wedding day, however, Mishel confessed that her beloved dad knew it was the wrong decision.
“My first or only ‘real’ wedding was one of his saddest days,” she explained.
“My Dad started crying from the early morning and cried the entire day and night! My Dad cried because he knew I was making a mistake and he was giving his first daughter away to a man that did not deserve me.”
Mishel admitted in the post that she didn’t listen to her father when he tried to warn of her of the impending marriage.
“Believing in me and my strength he supported me on that day and many other bad days. He could have saved me much heartache by just saying NO! No you will not marry my daughter but he always let me make my own decisions, so I could learn that every choice has consequences. Whatever actions you take ultimately you are responsible for the outcome!”
Mishel shares son Sam, 20 and daughter Eva, 18, with her ex-husband.
The couple were married for almost 13 years, but the marriage broke down after he cheated on Mishel.
“We’ve been on our own since they were quite young,” she revealed on MAFS.
“Quite often I’ll go out with my children and their friends but I end up paying for drinks,” the mum-of-two added.
Mishel may have looked stunning at her second wedding to Steve on MAFS, but the day went pear-shaped when Steve confessed he’d been unfaithful in a previous relationship.
The couple’s relationship had more ups and downs than a rollercoaster throughout the series, but ended during the final vows ceremony when Mishel made her iconic break-up speech.
“I have felt the least attractive, least sensual I’ve ever felt in my whole life spending the time with you and listening to you remind me that you have no attraction,” she told him during the episode.
“It’s empowering to take back my strength, to take back my voice as a woman. I actually deserve someone that desires me and wants me.”
Throwing her wedding ring away, she added: “I’m very free now. I feel like, “Oh, drop the ring! I’m free!”‘
