I have a fun idea babe, involving none other than Sabrina Carpenter in the upcoming sequel, Mamma Mia! 3.

Whilst we have confirmation that our Greece Paridiso film will be returning for the third time, there have also been whispers by the franchise’s producer, Judy Craymer, that she has envisioned Sabrina for one of the roles.

“She’d be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep,” Judy shared with Deadline.

“It’ll happen when it happens,” Judy added of the potential for Sabrina to join the cast.

Now that we’re on our toes waiting for the official cast list, here is everything we know so far about Mamma Mia! 3.

Is there a Mamma Mia! 3?

Following the release of the second film in 2018, seven years ago, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again ended after the birth of Sophie’s son.

In 2020, producer Judy Craymer confirmed to the Daily Mail that a trilogy was always in the picture, sharing, “I think one day there will be another film, because there’s meant to be a trilogy.”

In August 2024, actress Christine Baranski, known for her role as Tanya, shared with The Hollywood Reporter that she had met with Judy.

Who is in the cast of Mamma Mia! 3?

Whilst we wait for the official cast list to be revealed, we can only guess that Amanda’s character as Sophie will remain at the focus of the film after her son’s birth.

Speaking with Deadline, Judy shared that, “We know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen.

“And I mean, we brought together an amazing group of movie stars that were all connected through it and huge friendships evolved.”

Even though Meryl Streep’s character Donna *spoiler alert* sadly died in the last film, Meryl spoke with Deadline in May last year about how her character would potentially be ‘revived’.

“I don’t know how they’re going to do it. They have an idea. I haven’t heard it yet but it’s in [my diary] and I’m going to hear about it pretty soon.”

“Of course I want to do it. I think folks love it,” she added.

So will we be seeing the ghost of Donna past or a gotcha, I wasn’t actually dead situation?

Amanda Seyfried certainly thinks so, sharing with Collider in 2020, “Having Meryl’s character die kind of gave us so many good storylines,” she said. “It was kind of a genius idea because you’re like, ‘No, we don’t want to lose her.’ But at the same time, look at what you can do, you can go back.”

We also have major ABBA fan Sabrina Carpenter on Judy’s watch list for a potential role. During performances, she’s covered ABBA songs and has even named her two cats Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus after the founding ABBA members – sorry but if that doesn’t get you the part, then I don’t know what would.

Judy shared with Deadline the possibility of Sabrina being someone related to Meryl.

And Amanda Seyfried even gave the idea on ABC that, “If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen.”

The storylines are endless!
