We love a book-screen adaptation, and the announcement of Julia Whelan’s 2018 book, adapted from Allison Burnett’s original screenplay is giving us just that.

My Oxford Year is a Netflix romance starring Sofia Carson, who gave us the emotional Purple Hearts and The Life List, so we know it’s going to be a good one.

On first reading the script, Sofia shared with ELLE, “I felt like I was reading a classic. Like I was reading a timeless love story that also felt so fresh, and so modern, and so real, and so true for this generation of viewers. I was really excited to be able to bring it to life. But I knew it was a big responsibility because Anna and Jamie’s love story is so profound, and so beautiful, and so sweeping.”

So as we patiently await for the film to drop on our Netflix, we have put together everything to know about our new favourite campus rom-com.

What is My Oxford Year about?

When a young and ambitious Anna sets out to chase her dreams of attending the University of Oxford, she feels like her life is finally on track.

Until, of course, a hot professor enters the chat to distract her from what she is actually there for.

Anna and her charming professor Jamie click, leading to the challenges of navigating the unexpected when everything is already so meticulously planned out.

Set against the beautiful history of Oxford, we get the enemies-to-lovers storyline in the most stunning location.

Playing the lead, Sofia shared with ELLE that she hopes the film “reaffirms that life is too short to not live it in love, and to not live it in joy, and to not live it in fulfillment.”

BAFTA nominee, Iain Morris, has taken the job of directing, seven years after the book hit shelves.

“I tried to make a film that reflects the wonderful, chaotic, funny, uncertain, heartbreaking experience that is falling in love, so I think they should expect a film that feels a bit like a classic romance, but hopefully that will make them laugh a bit too,” he shared with ELLE.
