In case you needed another book-to-movie adaptation to look forward to, Ali Hazelwood has you covered; her romance novel The Love Hypothesis is officially coming to the big screen.
Amazon MGM Studios and MRC are bringing the story to life, with Claire Scanlon (Set It Up) in the director’s chair and Sarah Rothschild (The Sleepover) writing the script. And yes, Ali herself is on board as executive producer, so you know the adaptation is in good hands.

Who is in the cast of The Love Hypothesis movie?
Lili Reinhart (Riverdale) will star as Olive Smith, who is a biology PhD candidate, entering a fake relationship with her grumpy professor, Dr Adam Carlsen.
Adam is played by Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile).
The author of the book, Ali, released a statement via Deadline that read:
“Elizabeth Cantillon [the film’s producer], Claire Scanlon, and Lili Reinhart have all created, produced, or starred in works that I’m absolutely feral about, and I am beyond honoured that they’re choosing to bring their talent to this project.
“Books and films are very different media, and I have complete trust in this brilliant team. I cannot wait to see the final product they’ll come up with. I hope they have as much fun filming as I had while writing the book.”
Joining them are Rachel Marsh as Olive’s best friend, Anh, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy, Jaboukie Young-White as Malcolm, and Arty Froushan as Tom.
What is The Love Hypothesis about?
The Love Hypothesis is a smart, feel-good romance about Olive Smith, a dedicated PhD student whose world gets turned upside down after a little experiment.
To convince her best friend she’s over a recent heartbreak, Olive impulsively kisses the intimidating Dr Adam Carlsen, and of course, sparks fly.
Eventually, the chemistry can’t be ignored, and what started as a fake relationship quickly becomes complicated, and they have to figure out if their “hypothesis” might just lead to real love.
And while it’s been a few years since I read the book, I do remember I ate every bit of this cliché (yet totally adorable) storyline. And I can’t wait to relive it during the movie.
When is The Love Hypothesis movie coming out?
It’s official: The Love Hypothesis will be available to stream on Prime Video from September 23.
