After years of scaled-back events, Australia’s music scene is ready to shine with epic lineups, international headliners, and experiences that go way beyond the stage.

With names like Addison Rae and Kettama set to hit our shores, this festival season is one for the books.

According to Mesh Webb, Programming Manager at Untitled Group, the festival scene has evolved in exciting ways.

“I think every year is an exciting year for festivals! A festival lineup is such a cool snapshot of where music is at that particular moment. What’s really exciting to me is seeing how genre-fluid festivals are becoming. Obviously, we’re known for showcasing electronic music, but we’re really starting to see a lot of love for the Pop and Alternative acts too.”

Mesh has been with Untitled for two years now and is all about giving emerging talent the spotlight they deserve.

“Beyond The Valley hosts a series of discovery stages where I program emerging artists and celebrate all of the incredible domestic talent we have to offer,” she shared.

And yes, social media is still changing the game. “There are artists who, on paper, look small but will have viral content popping up from their shows, and it can skyrocket their careers onto major festivals.”

One of the best parts of festivals, besides an amazing lineup, is festival fashion.

“I’m really loving seeing the sustainability trend continue to dominate the festival fashion scene,” Mesh said.

“Buying second-hand is certainly the way to go to create a truly unique festival fit. With curated second-hand stores like SWOP and Buzzkill Vintage, it’s easier than ever.

“Top it off with some obscenely big 2000’s 2000s-style sunglasses and it’s a look! I’m also a huge fan of supporting local designers,” Mesh shared.

All the international recognition aside, it’s the local communities that make festivals magical.
