Real Housewives of Sydney star Lisa Oldfield has opened up about the struggles she faced after splitting from her husband of 18 years, David Oldfield.
The mother-of-two and former I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here star spoke candidly about the hardships she’s endured over the past two years, revealing that learning to handle the family finances after separating from David— best known for co-founding One Nation party with Pauline Hanson— took a toll on her emotional and physical health.
“When I found myself late last year facing a divorce with expensive legal fees and setting up a new home, I really didn’t know where to start,” she told news.com.au, revealing she couldn’t afford her children’s school fees. “It was awful — all of a sudden I didn’t have a roof over my head, I didn’t know where I was going to live, and I was facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal bills and I never expected that to happen to me.
The Real Housewives star continued: “I buried my head in the sand for the first month or two but the bills piled up — I was very lucky to have my parents’ emotional and financial support because my major asset — the family home — is frozen at the moment. I’ve always had a career and made good money, but I’d never had to be responsible for the financial side — David always paid the bills and did the budget.”
During the trying time— which Lisa admits was a shock to the system—the 44-year-old’s mother and father helped take care of the “financial burden” while also babysitting Lisa and David’s two young boys, Bert and Harry.
“The reality is that after my separation, if not for the support of my family, I would be in a seriously compromised financial position,” she said. “Without my dad, I’d be up Struggle Street trying to put a roof over our heads until the divorce is finalised.
After a series of public fights, Lisa announced in February of this year that she and her husband David had mutually agreed to end their tumultuous marriage.
“Dear friends and family, it’s with a very heavy heart that I am announcing this. David and I will be getting a divorce,” she wrote on Facebook. “We aren’t sure what that looks like right now, but we do know that we are going to be the most epic divorced parents ever. Henry and Albert will remain our top priority. We aren’t interested in being ugly about any of the details that go along with this kind of thing. Please: We ask for your kindness, prayers, and love as we work this out together.”

Although the Australian socialite admits she’s still trying to resolve her financial situation, she thanks her new partner businessman James Laws (Jimbo), for helping her through the rough patches.
“It was unexpected but in the long run it was the best for me,” she told News.com.au. “David wasn’t seeing anybody else, I wasn’t seeing anybody else, but the love died, unfortunately, which was very sad because we’ve been best friends for years, but now we are working together to co-parent as best we can. No one who gets divorced comes out of it unscathed, and it was a really hard time, but I’m over the worst of it — I love my kids to death … my career is going really well, and I’m very lucky to be in a very happy relationship with someone who really cares about me, and it is an enormous support to me.”
