It’s the dramatic exit that has Married at First Sight fans reeling – as Sam skipped out on new TV bride Elizabeth.
Following a cringing wedding in which Sam repeatedly expressed his lack of attraction for Elizabeth – commenting dismissively to camera on her hair, and, controversially, her body, the hunk said he didn’t want to have sex with his bride on their wedding night, hoping instead that they could ‘get to know each other.’
Things didn’t go well for a keen Elizabeth the next day, when Sam announced he’s received some harsh news and needed to leave.
‘I’ve got to tell you obviously, I can’t pretend that it hasn’t happened,’ he revealed. ‘I’ve just found out my ex partner’s mum’s passed away and she wants me to go to the funeral.
‘I feel bad because we’ve just met and this has come up.’

Elizabeth said she was fine with him making the choice to leave, feeling it was only right given the circumstances.
‘I mean I don’t even know what to say, of course you’ve got to go to the funeral. There’s no problem with that, it’s fine. That means you’ll be leaving today.’
The honeymoon was ditched, with the revelation the funeral would take place in New Zealand. When asked over the speaker phone if he needs return flights, he tells the operator ‘I’m not sure.’
Mulling over the implications of his choice, Sam adds, ‘I can tell she’s frustrated, but um, what do you do, I’ve only known her for a day.’
The couple have had a controversial history, despite the shortness of their time together.
‘She’s got a nice face, I’m not judging her on her body image,’ Sam told friends upon their first meeting. ‘Maybe I can get her to go for a run in the morning.’

The 26-year-old further stunned viewers by brazenly announcing that his bride was ‘larger than girls he’s dated before’.
But despite the massive viewer backlash, he insists that he wasn’t being rude, saying of the backlash, ‘I can take the criticism. I will take the bullet.’
Things aren’t looking great for the future – with reports today of an alleged affair.
