This season’s youngest contestant, Luke, narrowly missed out on a spot in the final five on MasterChef this week, and it was a “bittersweet” moment for the 19-year-old.
During an elimination challenge set by judge Jean-Christophe, the contestants had 75 minutes to create a dish that personalised either Espagnole or Velouté, two classic French mother sauces. After a demonstration from the judge in his chef whites, the contestants immediately cracked on with trying to replicate one of the two sauces in a dish of their choice.
Unfortunately, Luke’s lamb rack dish was a little too ambitious.
A cooking blunder with the lamb left him with very little time to make the sauce in question, and he was the latest to leave the show.
Now out of the running to become this season’s winner, Luke confessed to WHO there’s only one person he wants to win, giving a very cheeky (and sweet) explanation why.
Luke has a ‘vested interest’ in who wins the show
When asked who he’d like to take home the win and the $250,000 prize money, Luke had one person in mind.
“I’d love my roommate Petro to win it. He’s my boy,” Luke confessed. “He did say if he won, he’d take me on a trip to Greece… so I probably have a vested interest there.”
While all the contestants have been exceptionally close this year (with a secret romance even rumoured), Luke and Petro grew particularly close while sharing rooms in Melbourne as they filmed the show.
Their bromance was highlighted after Luke’s elimination, with the young cook receiving a special shout-out from Petro, who posted a sweet tribute to Luke and their time together.
The 30-year-old ended his message to the young MasterChef star with a very sweet sentiment.
“I know you might have four brothers, but you’re my only one.”

‘Anyone who’s left, they’re all great cooks’
The promise of European travel aside, Luke admitted he’d be more than happy if any of the remaining contestants won.
“Honestly, everyone who’s left is talented. I think the whole competition, everyone’s been really strong,” he said. “Otherwise, I’d probably love Annabel to get it. I feel like it being the last girl there would be cool.
“But I mean, anyone who’s left, they’re all great cooks and they’re all great friends.”
