The tide is turning on The Block contestants. Adam and Jolene were firm favourites at the start, but some viewers have started to question Adam’s “larrikin” persona once he started stealing supplies and not sharing tools with other teams. Jolene’s matter-of-fact approach to situations (and people) has also impacted her popularity.
There have been several moments when Jolene has expressed her frustration this week, too, and it’s causing backlash with fans.
For example, while picking out furnishings for the charity challenge in Freedom, she had a blow-up with Tayla. She also had a run-in with Wyatt, whom she found standing inside her house when no one else was around.
There seems to be clear tension between Jolene and other teams, and these situations have been shifting viewer sentiment.
However, Adam and Jolene have responded to the backlash, and told WHO they’ve been “lucky” with how they’ve been portrayed on the show, claiming it’s pretty accurate.
The Block fans are getting grumpy about Jolene
As the episodes continue to air during rumpus and laundry week, social media has been flooded with comments about contestant dynamics.
One fan questioned what “Jolene thinks of herself watching the show back”, insinuating her recent edit on the show hasn’t been favourable.
“I get a feeling she may not self-reflect very much,” another viewer said.
However, others backed her, saying she remains their “favourite” and that she should be “proud” of how she’s behaved on the show, saying she’s a “hard worker” and a “hustler”.
What is Jolene saying to the haters?
When asked how she felt about her portrayal on the show, Jolene told WHO she’s happy with it.
“I think we’ve been pretty lucky. I think we’re very much ourselves,” she admitted.
“I am a straight shooter, and I have a hard exterior because of life and growing up in the bush. I know there’s been a little bit of backlash about how I’m standoffish, but that’s just how I am.”

Adam then jumped in and joked that, while others had monkey heads and other animals AI-generated onto them at the start of the series, producers should feature a “snappy crocodile” head onto Jolene, poking fun and how much of a straight-shooter his wife is.
When asked what animal she thought represented her best, Jolene gave a surprising response.
“It’s only been since we’ve been back in our hometown that I’ve really kind of thought, ‘I really love the curlews’.”
The native birds are renowned for being “really standoffish” but are skilled foragers.
“They kind of just stand there, and they’re often in the shadows. That’s probably why they’re a little bit like me.”
