EXCLUSIVE: The Block’s Rick confesses to tense off-camera moments with foreman Dan

The contestant told WHO why foreman Dan kept pulling him aside during filming.

The Block contestant Rick has been revered as a hard-working tradie who has mastered the art of putting his head down and getting the job done on the show. As a builder for decades, his skills were particularly fruitful this week, after the team secured their first win with their master ensuite bathroom reveal.

However, his work ethic has been a double-edged sword and viewers have constantly watched on as the 62-year-old – who was diagnosed with cancer years ago – continues to push himself to his limits.

Foreman Dan picked up on it too, and Rick told WHO it resulted in some tense off-camera moments.

Foreman Dan has pulled Rick aside multiple times to slow down

Despite seeing Rick’s relentless work ethic for what it is (a hugely admirable trait), foreman Dan has urged the contestant to slow down and prioritise his health at times when he’s been eager to steam ahead, despite being exhausted.

One of those moments happened on Sunday night, when Rick put a lot of pressure on himself to get things done before the judge’s critiques.

“I’ve been ever so mindful of the budget from day one. So I thought, you know, let’s just try and push a bit harder this week and try and do as much as I can,” Rick told WHO, saying he rationalises doing more since he then doesn’t have to pay tradies to do it.

“Dan sort of pulls me up on it a few times,” he confessed.

Rick can see his ‘stubbornness’ watching the show back

Tayla is also seen encouraging her dad to stop, and it’s mentioned again when WHO interview the pair.

Rick admits he’s always been “stubborn” and his sense of work ethic was encouraged to him by his parents — something he’s passed onto Tayla and her twin sister Shannen.

“I think it’s just the way I’ve been brought up. I think the girls are the same,” he said, citing his Mauritian heritage.

However, since watching the show back, Rick said he could see in hindsight he was taking too much on at times.

“It’s probably showing up to me that I’ve tried to do too much myself, but yeah… I’m stubborn.”
