Meghan Markle has announced the death of her beloved dog Guy.
The Duchess of Sussex shared the sad news in a new Instagram post on January 7.
“I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are,” Meghan wrote alongside a video showing images of Guy throughout his life.
When did Meghan Markle adopt Guy?
The former Suits actress adopted Guy in 2015 from a shelter.
“He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up….and fell in love,” Meghan explained.
The beagle had been called “little guy” by staff at the shelter, which is why Meghan decided to call him Guy when he came to live with her.
The dog had been by Meghan’s side for many milestone moments in her life, living with her in Canada, before making the move to London and then Los Angeles.
“He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mum….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort,” Meghan said of her best friend.
Her tribute included photos of videos of Guy from their decade together.
This included sweet moments from him also spending time with her family– Prince Harry, 40, Prince Archie, 5, and 3-year-old Princess Lilibet.
“He was the best guy any girl could have asked for,” Meghan said.
Will Guy feature in Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show?
Meghan shared the news with followers on her new Instagram account as the sweet little pooch will feature in her upcoming lifestyle series on Netflix.
In a clip from the trailer of With Love, Meghan, Guy is seen being given a dog biscuit.
The ad for the series finishes with Meghan chopping vegetables in the kitchen while looking over at her pooch asleep on a pillow.
“Guy’s snoring,” she said to the camera. “Peaceful day.”
In her tribute following his death, Meghan explained how she hoped others would see what a special dog he was when after they watch him on TV.
“Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too,” she said.
