Starting as a 16-person wheelchair archery event in 1948, the Paralympic Games has since evolved to include over 20 sports showcasing the sporting talents of over 4,000 athletes – making the 2024 Paralympic Games one of the biggest to date,

As the athletes prepare to take to the global sporting stage for their next medal-winning moment, we round up everything you need to know about the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Where will the 2024 Paralympics be held?

The 2024 Paralympic Games will be hosted in Paris, France.

Similarly to the Olympic Games, the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will be held at venues across France, with athletes participating in events such as Para-Equestrian and Para-Shooting travelling to new Olympic/Paralympic venues in Versaille and  Châteauroux.

When are the Paralympics?

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will commence just over two weeks after the conclusion of the Olympic Games, with the Opening Ceremony taking place on August 28, 2024.

Unlike the Olympics which takes place for 18 days, the 2024 Paralympics will run for 11 days, with the events concluding on September 8, 2024.

How many sports are in the Paralympics?

The Paralympic Games will showcase 22 sports across 549 medal events, with over 4,400 athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Alongside the classic Summer Olympic sports, such as swimming and athletes, the Paralympic Games also showcase several Para-specific sports, such as Boccia and Goalball.
