It’s not uncommon for family members to join contestants on stage during Australian reality TV singing shows, especially on a show like The Voice.
For The Voice Australia contestant Yung Milla though, being joined by his brother, J-MILLA, on stage after his Blind Audition, was not a scenario he saw coming.
Usually, a family member joins contestants on stage later in the season, like when 2026 Australian Idol winner Kesha Oayda was joined by her father, Nolen Oayda, during the competition’s final stages, accompanying her on the guitar as she performed Miley Cyrus’ ‘The Climb’.
Rarely do we see a collaboration like this so early in a season, but boy, were we lucky to see it!
Speaking to WHO after his Blind Audition success, Yung Milla revealed what led to this spontaneous moment, and what it meant to earn a 4 Chair Turn.
Who is Yung Milla?
Yung Milla is a Marranunggu hip-hop artist from Darwin, and on Tuesday night, August 18, the contestant absolutely blew away The Voice Coaches with his performance of All My Life, an original song by his brother J-MILLA.
The contestant managed to turn all four chairs, receiving high praise from each of the Coaches. Richard Marx declared that “everyone would remember where they were when they first heard Yung Milla” and Melanie C called his performance “world class”.
After Melanie C blocked Richard, the contestant ended up on Sporty Spice’s team.
“Maaaan I didn’t know where to look or what to do I was blown away,” Yung Milla told WHO when asked how this moment felt. “My heart was pumping and my dopamine was pinging.”
The artist also shared what inspired his music journey, with his family at the heart.
“It’s my way of expressing what it is to be a young Aboriginal man,” he said. “Coming from the background I did I had no chance – my pathway was leading me straight to prison.
“But I watched my brother do it and I followed him to choose the right path. My music now inspires other young kids to do the same.”

However, a stand-out moment from the performance took place after his Blind Audition.
After finishing the audition and turning all four chairs, the rapper was joined on stage by his brother. The pair then lit up the stage by performing the song again – this time, together.
Yung Milla spoke about why he chose to perform his brother’s song in the first place, and what it meant to have him invited on the stage to join him.
“If it wasn’t for my brother J-MILLA I wouldn’t be here doing this right now,” he said. “He’s so talented and a great performer and I learnt from him.
“I wanted to perform his song so we both got the exposure and then being invited to re-do the song again with my brother was out of this world.”
Yung Milla added: “It will be a moment in our history that will be with us forever.”
