It was the iconic noughties movie that gave us the ever-catchy tune Perfect Day, countless pink outfits, cult-worthy quotes and the reminder that girls not only can do anything they set their minds to — they can do it while looking fabulous too.
Legally Blonde was an immediate hit with audiences, grossing $141 million worldwide following its 2001 premiere and continuing to captivate fans almost 25 years later. And now, we’re finally getting more Elle Woods.
An Elle Woods return in 2026 wasn’t exactly on our bingo cards, but after the one and only Reese Witherspoon took to Instagram to announce that the beloved film was being adapted into a spinoff TV series, fans have been counting down the days until the first episode drops.
With Reese and her production company Hello Sunshine on board, the project has always felt like it was in good hands — and after almost a year of waiting, we finally know when the Legally Blonde prequel will hit our screens.

What is the Legally Blonde TV show about?
Set years before Harvard Law School, Elle is an origin story that follows Elle Woods as a high school student, revealing the formative experiences that shaped her into the confident, kind and unstoppable icon fans know and love.
Season one explores Elle’s teenage years in the 1990s, offering a coming-of-age story rooted in optimism, authenticity and self-belief — the same themes that made the original films cultural touchstones.
The series is created by Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure) and is produced by Hello Sunshine alongside Amazon MGM Studios.
Who is in the cast of the Legally Blonde prequel?
After months of speculation, Reese Witherspoon revealed in February 2025 that Lexi Minetree will lead the series as Elle Woods.
The role marks Lexi’s first major leading performance, and judging by Reese’s emotional reaction to her audition tape, fans are in for a standout portrayal of a younger Elle.
The season one cast also includes:
- June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother, Eva
- Tom Everett Scott as her father, Wyatt
- Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney and Zac Looker
Recurring cast members include James Van Der Beek, Jessica Belkin, David Burtka, Lisa Yamada and more.
Is Reese Witherspoon going to be in it?
Reese Witherspoon won’t be starring on-screen, at least for now, but she’s very much involved behind the scenes.
Reese serves as an executive producer, alongside Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), as well as Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt and Amanda Brown. She also famously reprised her iconic pink suit at Amazon’s Upfront presentation in 2024, reminding fans that Elle Woods is never far away.
As Reese put it, the series is a chance to show “how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with” — and with season two already locked in, the future of Elle is looking very bright (and very pink).
