The 2020s have so far been the decade of a BookTok love story, and when it comes to romance tropes, the internet is definitely in agreement that the tension of a classic enemies-to-lovers story is hard to beat.

Fortunately for us hoping to fall in love with their super attractive mortal enemy, last year served us with several new slow-burn book-to-screen adaptations to binge-watch, and if you were on TikTok at all, you’ve definitely heard the hype around Prime Video’s Maxton Hall: The World Between Us.

Starring our new favourite on-screen couple Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten, Season 1 of the German drama quickly made its way to the top of Prime Video’s worldwide charts, with the finale leaving fans begging for another series.

While it may have been a long wait, we now know that James and Ruby’s romance will *finally* be returning to our screens for Season 2!

Will there be a Maxton Hall Season 2?

Enemies-to-lovers fans, we are SO back! Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive fan response, Maxton Hall was renewed for Season 2 shortly after the Season 1 premiere.

“We are overwhelmed by the euphoric reactions from all over the world for our first season and very grateful that we can continue to tell Mona Kasten’s moving love story! The cast, crew and we are very excited and ready for Season 2,’ UFA Fiction producer Ceylan Yildirim told Prime Video.

Shortly after the announcement, it was confirmed that series stars Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten would be reprising their roles as James and Ruby, with Sonja Weißer and Eidin Jalali also set to return as James’ sister Lydia and her boyfriend, Mr Sutton.

What is the plot of Maxton Hall Season 2?

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

While the official plot details of Season 2 have yet to be revealed, thanks to Mona Kasten’s novel Save Us, we have a vague idea of what the next chapter in Ruby and James’ love story will look like.

At the start of the second novel, we discover that James and Ruby are on rocky ground after James is caught kissing another girl at a party, with the former flames now going their separate ways.

After discovering that James’ sister Lydia is pregnant with Mr Sutton’s children, Lydia leaves the Beaufort family home. In an attempt to cover up the affair, photos of Ruby and Mr Sutton are leaked to the school and after discovering James took the photos, Ruby continues to avoid him.

Despite the tension, the pair are continually drawn to each other, with Ruby offering her support to James by allowing him to move in with her to escape his family drama.

As with many great enemies-to-lovers novels, their close proximity forces them to confront their differences and, in good news for James and Ruby fans, the book ends with the couple back together.

Although the premiere date may still be a bit vague, the show’s creators have assured fans that it will be worth the wait.

“We want to offer fans around the globe the best Maxton Hall experience. As such, we’re intensely working on a first-class production and music composition for the series, including comprehensive language versions. We promise the wait will be worth it,” an Amazon spokesperson told Deadline.
