Bridgerton may have officially come to a close for another season, but our yearning for a period drama romance has certainly not gone away.
For those of us missing our daily dose of enemies-to-lovers tension, My Lady Jane quickly became our new favourite streaming obsession, and with the season one finale leaving many questions unanswered, fans are itching to know what happens next in the story of Jane and Guildford.
With fans’ pearls well and truly clutched, we finally have an update on the fate of our new favourite characters,
What is My Lady Jane about?
Enemies-to-lovers? Forbidden romance? Hilariously silly? Literally what more could we want from a new historical rom-com?!
Based on the best-selling novel by Cynthia Hand, My Lady Jane is based on a not-so-true story of Tudor England’s 17-year-old Queen and her new life as a headstrong, young ruler.
With the crown now firmly in her grasp, Jane quickly becomes the target of some of the most villainous characters in her court – navigating her new royal agenda while also trying to stay alive.
Fortunately, or maybe not so fortunately, for Jane, her new arranged marriage to the wealthy Guildford Dudley creates a nice distraction from the drama of royal life, however, as Guildford’s secret threatens to be exposed, life in the palace soon takes a chaotic turn.
Who is the cast of My Lady Jane?
Starring in her debut feature role as Jane Grey is Emily Bader, who joins the cast opposite Sex Education’s Edward Bluemel as Guildford Dudley.
Also joining the ensemble cast is Gavin & Stacy star Rob Brydon as Lord Dudley, Anna Chancellor as Lady Frances Grey, Jordan Peters as King Edward, Dominic Cooper as Lord Seymour, and Enola Holmes star Abbie Hern as Princesses Mary and Bess.
Reflecting on their early days as Lady Jane and Guildford, Emily told WHO, “[Edward and I] met for the first time [in-person] doing a stunt rehearsal, so we were really just thrown into, “Hi, nice to meet you, let’s try to kill each other with daggers,”
“We met on Zoom for the first time in a chemistry read and we were thousands of miles away from each other with a sort of slight three-second delay and had to create some magic on the screen,” Edward continued, adding, “Normally in a chemistry read, you meet the person in person and you can flirt your socks off and everyone goes, ‘Oh my gosh, they’ve got so much chemistry,’ but this was a little bit harder.”
“It was such an amazing family, this entire ensemble, and it’s almost unbelievable. The amount that we not only got along but grew to really love each other. It was so special,” Emily continued.
Will there be a Season 2 of My Lady Jane?
Despite capturing the hearts of angsty period drama lovers across the globe, the endless TikTok edits of Jane and Guildford sadly were not enough to renew My Lady Jane for a second season, with Deadline reporting that Prime Video has opted not to continue the next chapter of the new King and Queen’s love story due to low viewership.
While the series may not have racked up the watch time, My Lady Jane certainly received high praise from fans and critics. Receiving a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94% positive reviews, the series has become one of the best-received new dramas of 2024, beating out multi-series favourites such as Netflix’s Emily in Paris, The Umbrella Academy, and Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon.
