As if Delta Goodrem hasn’t already done Australia proud this year at the Eurovision Song Contest, she’s now flying the flag on Strictly Come Dancing — the UK original of Dancing with the Stars.
She started with a bang, landing at the top of the leaderboard in week two after dancing the American Smooth to “I’ll Never Love Again” from the 2018 film A Star Is Born, famously performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
The 41-year-old singer, who is dancing with pro Kai Widdrington, got a score of 30 from the judges out of a potential 40, and was absolutely thrilled with such a strong start.
“Thank you so, so much for your votes and for all your support on our Strictly journey so far, we really appreciate it,” she wrote on her Instagram. Later, she shared her own version of the song to her socials.
Well played, Delta.
What do the Strictly Come Dancing fans think of Delta?
While Delta had modest fame in the UK at the start of the year — most known in the country for her early 2000s hits and role on Neighbours — her star is well and truly on the rise after her incredible performances at Eurovision and the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in Glasgow.
After her first two dances on the show, the Brits are loving her.
“She is beautiful, and her storytelling was great,” one fan of the show said, while another said the singer had “great potential” in the competition.
‘Boy she knows how to sell a performance! You can see there’s technical stuff to work on, but a great first ballroom dance, especially when there’s only a week to prepare vs. 2 weeks for week 1.”
We love to see it.
Next week, the pair take on the salsa to Chaka Khan’s Ain’t Nobody. Long may her reign continue!
It seems Aussies really are just destined to dominate on overseas dancing shows.
Who was eliminated?
While you may not be familiar with many of the contestants on the show, you’ll likely know the man who was just eliminated: Chris Appleton.
He’s a celebrity hairstylist and has worked with everyone from Christina Aguilera to Jennifer Lopez. However, he most notably styled Kim Kardashian’s hair for years and has appeared on The Kardashians — both as her hairstylist and her friend.
He’s the first to be eliminated this season.
