When Amanda and Ashleigh hit our screens on The Amazing Race earlier this year, viewers weren’t the only ones who underestimated them.
“I think a lot of the other teams did as well,” Amanda, 29, admits to WHO.
“They didn’t think that we would be a threat, or were very serious racers, or were there for one thing.”
However, the “Gold Coast Glamours” don’t think it was just their looks that led to these misconceptions.
“As a woman, you’re underestimated anyway,” Ashleigh, 32, explains.
“People are like, ‘Well, there’s these two girls who are dressed in pink and they’re all like happy and smiley and giggly all the time … how are they going to beat the Sikhs, or the cowboys, or even Alex and Jack?’”
It wasn’t long though, before the pair were proving the cynics wrong – showing grit and determination with every challenge they’ve taken on.
“Hopefully we’ve shown that girls can do anything, if not, better than the guys,” Amanda tells.
“Our motto with every challenge is never give up. We’ll keep trying until we’re bleeding at the hands and knees.”
Surprisingly, considering how close they are, the pair have also managed to impress each other.
“Amanda’s so driven and motivated,” Ashleigh says.
“She’s an awesome teammate.”
And Amanda is equally as thankful to have partnered with her bestie for the race.
“Ashleigh has the patience of a saint,” she laughs.
“I’m really high energy and I get a lot more stressed in the high pressure situations than Ash does. So she’s just shown me time and time again, she’s got patience, she’s calm, she’s level-headed.”
Now, as part of the top six, the pair are tantalisingly close to scooping up the $250,000 prize money. And they already know exactly how they’ll spend it, should they end up in that top spot.
“I really want to open my own personal training studio,” Ashleigh admits.
“I love working with women to find their confidence in the gym and also help them discover how strong they are.”
Meanwhile, Amanda is hoping to finally walk down the aisle, after postponing her nuptials due to COVID-19.
“I just [want to] get married to my fiancé – finally!” she tells.
