The Block fans had plenty of complaints this season. From grumbling about the use of AI to favouritism claims to how “out of touch” the multimillion-dollar homes were, viewers were sharing their complaints left, right and centre.

So naturally, they have a long list of changes they want to see next year, and we’re making a note so Channel Nine will hopefully check them out.

What do we know about The Block 2027?

Next year’s Blockheads will be asked to convert three buildings that were previously used as an asylum into five luxury homes.

A huge challenge for the teams will be trying to preserve the buildings and work around all the complex heritage regulations, while battling it out as always to win the top prize.

Scott Cam and Shelley Craft announced at the Channel Nine Upfronts (basically, the network’s annual event where it announces its major plans for the next year) in September that the beloved renovation show will be filming in Jacksons Hill, Sunbury, Victoria, meaning the new laws about announcing the reserve prices ahead of auctions will be in effect next year, too.

What changes are The Block viewers pushing for?

There are three major changes the viewers want to see next season, and as you can imagine, they’re all a little snarky.

Firstly, they want contestants to have no budget, since they claim “this year they threw the budget out the window”.

“Well next year should be interesting with the basis set this year. Throw the budget out the window; spend whatever you want, don’t stress to finish rooms because they will get done for you,” one said.

Another quipped that each room should have a strict budget, rather than teams having an overall budget they could allocate to each room.

The second is a change in judging, or at least the removal of “favouritism” after many complained that Courtney and Sev got extra help compared to the others.

The third is going back to affordable housing, with the hope being that the show can give everyday Aussies real inspiration to renovate their own homes.

“PLEASE… go back to houses that people can afford, and that contestants can actually complete themselves. It was so much more enjoyable when it was more relatable,” one fan said.
