It was another great week for Courtney and Sev on The Block, with the team winning the second challenge in a row and securing kitchen appliances worth $250,000 for their house.
Despite the commercial site manager and commercial interior designer being delighted, other contestants were quick to question if their win was fair since they didn’t fully finish their bathroom, borrowed tradies from other teams, with Scotty Cam insinuating that the pair had blown their budget in the process.
“We have busted arse, on our own, with no other help from other trades,” contestant Jolene said after the deliberation, saying Courtney and Sev had played “damsels in distress” during the week so they could plead and borrow trades from other teams.
“The girls are a joke,” she said.
Courtney and Sev have responded to the claims, telling WHO the reason why they had to ask for help from others teams wasn’t shown in the final edit of the episode.
The pressure of The Block impacted their tradies
The Block is a high-pressure environment for anyone to be involved in, and while Courtney and Sev were feeling the pressure to meet the deadline for their bathroom completion, the “best chippies we’ve ever dealt with in our whole design careers” were feeling it too, they said.
“The Block is no small feat, and the pressures of what we had to go through in week one, I think really wore at them,” they told WHO.
As the only team without a builder, their team’s carpenters were especially stress, and the girls said this stressed spilled over to their tradies.
“Everyone had a builder except for us, and so they sort of felt really incompetent in the context of skill set, I guess, and then it played into week two.”
They were full of praise for the tradies themselves, saying they were some of the best they’ve worked with, but ultimately the pressure is something viewers don’t really see, and hired help aren’t immune to it.
