The Block has only been on our screens for a few short weeks, but we’ve already seen enough drama to satisfy our appetite for messiness for about a decade.
This week, Wyatt confronted Tayla after she asked to borrow one of his and Chantel’s trades.
Wyatt initially told Tayla to call Chantel, who agreed to share the tradie’s details. However, when the number didn’t arrive quickly enough, Tayla found it online and contacted him herself.
The move didn’t sit well with Wyatt, who confronted Tayla and made it clear that he didn’t appreciate her approaching one of their trades directly.
Now, speaking exclusively to WHO, Wyatt and Chantel have explained why the seemingly small interaction touched a nerve.
“I feel like with Tayla, she’s all take and no give,” the couple said.
“She thinks it’s a good idea when she’s benefiting, but as soon as you ask for a favour, it’s just like, ‘Nah, competition. You’re not doing it.’”
Wyatt and Chantel accuse Tayla of going around them

According to Wyatt and Chantel, Tayla has previously attempted to approach their trades without going through the couple first.
“She tries to go around you and take your trades,” they claimed.
The pair said their frustration wasn’t simply about one phone number. After lending trades to other teams earlier in the competition, they had already introduced a blanket rule that they would no longer share workers.
“After week two’s incident with lending the tilers, we told everyone that we want everyone to finish, but we’re not lending our trades anymore,” they explained.
“We’re happy for our trades to give advice, but we’re not actually letting you take our physical trades because it’s a competition at the end of the day.”
For Wyatt and Chantel, helping another team complete its room could ultimately reduce their own chances of taking out the weekly prize.
“If we’re helping you beat us, then that’s helping us lose,” they said. “We don’t want to put ourselves in a bad position to help you out because then it puts us at a disadvantage.”
With $10,000 awarded to the winner of each room reveal, the couple said they could no longer afford to prioritise another team’s progress over their own.
“Winning a room is $10,000, so you’re basically ripping yourself off by helping someone else out,” they said.
Wyatt opens up about confronting Tayla
Wyatt said that despite how heated the confrontation between him and Tayla became, the anger was short-lived.
“I think it’s just very heated in the moment, and then she’ll drop it later like nothing happened,” he told WHO.
However, he said the situation left him feeling guilty because he genuinely wanted to help, despite knowing it could place his own team at a disadvantage.
“In the moment, you feel really bad and guilty because you want to help her out,” he said.
Wyatt also claimed Tayla would sometimes attempt to bypass the couple after being told no.
“She tries to go around you to get your trades and talk to them and say, ‘Yeah, Wyatt said it’s all good,’ or she’ll take something out of context to try to get her way,” he claimed.
For the couple, the repeated requests became more frustrating because they believed they had already made their position clear.
“We gave a blanket statement that we’re not lending out trades to anybody,” they said.
“That means don’t ask us. It was really hard because when people would ask, we’d want to help them, but we’d have to say no. We were just like, ‘Please stop asking,’ basically.”
Despite their firm stance, Wyatt and Chantel acknowledged that saying no didn’t always come naturally.
“We found it really difficult to say no to people,” they admitted. “We said yes more than we said no, and we started saying no a lot more towards the end.”
Well, that settles it then. Tayla, it looks like you’re going to have to figure something else out.
The Block airs Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm and Sundays at 7pm on Channel Nine and 9Now.
