Despite the name making the premise of the show quite obvious, last night’s betrayal on The Traitors shocked viewers and contestants alike after Alex Nation turned on one of her own.
Alex, Alvin Quah and Kirby Bentley entered the competition as a united group of Traitors, secretly deciding which Faithfuls to “murder” while attempting to avoid banishment themselves.
It appeared to be a genius game strategy, with the Faithfuls not standing a chance. That was until the alliance came to a dramatic end when suspicion landed on Alvin, resulting in Alex voting to send him home.
It was her vote that ultimately sent him packing, with viewers questioning whether he could have survived if his fellow Traitor had remained loyal.
Alvin has revealed to WHO that while he initially felt betrayed by Alex’s decision, watching the episode gave him a very different perspective on what happened.
“I actually didn’t expect that,” he admitted.
How did Alex accidentally expose Alvin?
Alvin’s fate was sealed at breakfast when Alex confronted AJ over his suspicions about her.
The outburst immediately caught the attention of the room and, rather than taking the pressure off Alex, gave AJ an important piece of information.
AJ quickly put two and two together and realised that Alvin must have told Alex about their earlier conversation, placing both Traitors firmly on his radar.
One viewer described the moment as an unnecessary mistake that left everybody watching the exchange.
“What the hell was Alex doing at breakfast by going all psycho at AJ?” they wrote on Reddit.
“It accomplished nothing and made her look suspicious. Everyone was staring at them, and you never want all eyes to be on you in The Traitors.”
AJ then used the situation to his advantage and decided to confront Alex, letting her know that he was in on her little secret: she was a Traitor.
It was then that Alex found herself in the firing line, and the only way to survive the competition was to prove her loyalty to the Faithfuls by voting out Alvin.
Unfortunately, Alvin was oblivious to the conversations being had and had no idea what was waiting for him.
Alvin reveals the Traitors’ secret warning system
Despite Alvin not knowing Alex and Kirby intended to vote him out, Kirby did give him a warning just before the Round Table took place.
The Traitors had come up with a secret code word to let one another know if their names were being mentioned.
“We had this code word for each other, all three of us,” Alvin explained. “If our names were mentioned, we’d tell each other, ‘You’re hot.’ Literally.”
But by the time Kirby approached Alvin, the situation had moved beyond “hot”.
“She told me just before I went to the Round Table, ‘You’re a volcano’,” he recalled.
“I thought, ‘Oh my God. Oh my God.’ That’s when I thought I had minutes to work up my defence, put my mask on and start thinking.”

However, while Alvin knew he had a target on his back, he was completely oblivious to the fact that one of his own was gearing up to vote against him.
“I didn’t know they were going to do it,” he said.
Did Alvin feel betrayed by Alex?
As the votes were revealed, the result came down to Alvin and AJ.
When Alex revealed Alvin’s name on her board, her vote helped tip the result against him and end his time in the game.
It was brilliant, brutal and completely unexpected, with one shocked viewer writing: “F–k. If Alex didn’t vote for Alvin, he could have survived?”
Alvin was dumbfounded, unable to grasp what had just happened.
“I remember seeing my name on Alex’s board and thinking, ‘Why?’” he told WHO.
“The missing piece was that I didn’t see all the alliance stuff happening with AJ, all the strategy and all the conversations around it.
“That’s why I was disappointed.”
However, after he watched the episode, Alvin empathised with Alex, saying he understood why she had to make that call.
“Watching it last night, my answer would be that I would have done the same thing,” he said.
“It’s a game about betrayal, right? If you’re backed up against the wall, what are you going to do? It’s you or the other person.”
Alex’s mistake at breakfast cost Alvin everything, but he’s no longer holding a grudge.
