We’re just hours away from the premiere of Trial By Kyle— a Network 10 pilot series that was so popular last year, it’s been brought back for a full season.
WATCH: Kyle and Anna make some serious decisions in the premire episode
For a little background, the hilarious show follows radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands and former Bachelor star Anna Heinrich as the dynamic duo deal with real people and real cases inside a real courtroom! Mind you, the legal matters they’re presiding over are pretty low key, with broken beds, stolen choreography and angry drag queens being at the centre of a few of the disputes.
As we know, the KIIS FM host has no legal background, with Network 10 going as far as saying “the only bar he’s ever passed is the one at his local pub”.
While Kyle is really just there to bring the laughs and the drama, Anna, on the other hand, knows what she’s doing!
The former reality TV star is a qualified criminal lawyer who will stand by Kyle’s side and offer legitimate legal advice which should help him on rulings— but let’s be real, Kyle runs his own race!
“I’m there to advise Kyle on what way he should go according to the law,” Anna said on Mamamia’s The Spill podcast. “But a lot of the time he doesn’t listen to me, which really annoys me. I do criminal law but this is civil law, so there’s a slight difference there. In criminal law, the stakes are a lot higher.”
While Anna is briefed on the cases before they’re presented, Kyle only receives a few bullet points before they’re brought to him.
“I have to get the rest of the s–t out of them,” he told 10 Daily, admitting that in some cases he spoke to the plaintiffs for over an hour and a half. “We edit the s–t out but I wanted to really find out what the big deal was and take it seriously for them.”
While the show is mainly for entertainment purposes, Kyle did admit he took the cases pretty seriously.
“There were plenty of people that weren’t my cup of tea, but I always tried to be fair,” he said, adding, “If they continued to be such a cock that everyone hated them I would just throw [the case] out, dismiss it or give it a little amount.
“I was very fluid with my verdicts based on what they did, what the argument was in court and how they conducted themselves.”
Although she was nervous to collaborate with the controversial radio star— considering he’s been involved in a string of scandals as of late—Anna said he was a delight to work with!
“That is the number one question people ask me,” Anna said. “But I had a really enjoyable time working with him. He is so fabulous and I don’t think anyone else could be put in that situation and do as well as him.
“Initially, when I heard about the show and I heard that Kyle was doing it I didn’t know how it would work, only because I’ve only ever seen Judge Judy.”
