Their new romantic-comedy is already shaping up to be the movie everyone will be talking about for 2026. And thanks to A24’s not so subtle hint in the film title- the full trailer for The Drama includes plenty chaotic scenes.

From mentions of a “terrible secret,” to Zendaya’s character Emma Harwood pulling a knife on her fiancé Charlie Thompson (Robert Pattinson), there is no shortage of outrageous moments.

What happens in the trailer of The Drama?

Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Pattinson) are joined at their pre-wedding dance lessons by friends (played by Alana Haim and Mamoudou) who prompt them to tell each other the “worst thing they’ve ever done” before they tie the knot. Taking pot-stirring to a whole new level!

This interaction leads Zendaya’s character Emma to confess something Pattinson’s character Charlie may never be able to move on from- and things only get crazier from here.

The trailer shows clips of a car crashing into a tree, a heated argument at the wedding ceremony, Charlie (Pattinson) throwing a chair, and Emma (Zendaya) pulling a knife on Charlie… not your usual pre-wedding vibes.

Who is in the cast of The Drama?

Beloved A-lister, Zendaya, stars as bookstore clerk from Baton Rouge, Emma Harwood, while Robert Pattinson plays her museum director fiancé, Charlie Thompson.

Their characters share an emotionally turbulent relationship that jumps between awkward to passionate, very unlike their respective relationships in real life with Tom Holland and Suki Waterhouse– those seem smooth sailing!

The cast also includes Alana Haim, Michael Abbott Jr. (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sydney Lemmon (Succession), Mamadou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion), and Hailey Gates (Challengers).

What is the plot of The Drama?

At first glance, The Drama looks like a sweet indie love story about a couple living in Boston. They’re engaged, they’re planning a wedding, but then the title kicks in.

Just days before the ceremony, one of them stumbles onto some “unsettling truths” about the other- the kind of truths that turn the most exciting time of your life into the most anxiety-filled.

The trailer shows their increasingly unhinged pre-wedding spiral which includes: a photoshoot so awkward it makes family dinners seem fun, a mysterious bloody nose, Zendaya drinking alone in her wedding dress like something out of a Lana Del Rey music video, and the slow dissolving of a relationship that maybe shouldn’t have been heading to the altar in the first place.

Why is everyone so obsessed with The Drama already?

Aside from the fact it has two of Hollywoods biggest actors involved, The Drama’s unique plot has garnered it huge virality on Reddit where A24 fans are calling it “intense” and “original” in the best way.

And even though they haven’t done the full marketing rollout yet, the newspaper engagment announcement featuring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson was enough to be sent into every groupchat.

When is the release date?

Although we haven’t received the invite for Zendaya and Tom Holland’s wedding, we have received the next best thing- the chance to watch her fake wedding to Robert Pattinson in The Drama on its release date of April 3, 2026.
