The place we all get our style inspiration from every year has spoken again, and Australian Fashion Week 2026 came in with a whole lot of personality. From feathered cape tops doing the most to sheer pieces bringing a healthy amount of visibility, the runways did not disappoint.
Basically, if you’ve been wondering what’s next in fashion, the answer is: everything, everywhere, all at once… but in a very refined, chic way, of course.

Sheer layers

Last year, sheer layering was everywhere, and if this year’s runways were enough to go by, the barely-there material will reign supreme in our wardrobes for another year (at least).
Karla Špetić added edge to the sheer trend with tailored pieces layered on top of one another.
At the same time, Bianca Spender featured fluid silhouettes in the material, creating movement that looked effortless yet refined.

Monochromatic feathers and fringing

Both Carla Zampatti and Mariam Seddiq displayed sculptural monochromatic feather and fringed pieces ranging from purses to capes to full dresses, and we’re here for it.
Keeping the fringe detailing simple in black and white not only allows for more versatility within the pieces, but also reduces the risk of looking like you’re wearing a fraggle.

Vacation vibes

Resort-inspired prints and hues always make for a great addition to any wardrobe, whether you have a holiday planned or not.
At Aje, palm tree prints contrasted with sunset backgrounds, while tropical pink and blue shades stood out at Hansen and Gretel.
Pair these pieces with bright accessories and Y2K sunglasses to bring the sunshine with you.

Textural Leather

Leather and leather-look pieces are timeless, but (sadly) they can get boring quickly.
Textural leather proved to be the solution to this age-old problem for this year’s AFW, as brown croc jackets were on display at Bianca Spender.
Tactile leather pants and jackets in brighter hues sauntered down the runway at Gary Bigeni, proving that this trend can be worn in bold and unexpected ways.

Bold blocks

Colour-blocking came through with a playful, polished energy at Carla Zampatti, where refined separates were reimagined in bold, unexpected pairings with cherry red trousers styled with a burgundy jacket and candy pink blouse.
At Gary Begini, while colour-blocking is this fashion house’s forte, our favourite iteration was the choice to pair a red skirt with a dark blue singlet for a moodier take on the trend.
