In this article, we’re going to be listing down the 6 best moisturisers with SPF.

Why Is Sunscreen Important?

According to the Cancer Council, exposure to the ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun causes over 90 percent of melanomas (the most lethal type of skin cancer). And because Australia has the highest skin cancer mortality rates in the world, we need to be extra careful! The Cancer Council says that 1 in 8 adults are sunburnt on an average summer weekend.

So where does sunscreen come in? Well, sunscreen helps protect your skin from sunburn and skin cancer by blocking UVB (ultraviolet B) rays from penetrating the skin. How much UVB is blocked depends on the sunscreen’s SPF or Sun Protection Factor. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, the SPF number indicates how much longer you can stay out in the sun before burning. For example, using an SPF 15 sunscreen will mean it will take you 15 times longer than usual to get sunburnt.

However, this doesn’t mean that a higher SPF is a safer bet. There is a sweet spot too – most skincare experts recommend using SPF 15 to 50. This is because most people tend to assume that just because they’re using an extremely high SPF they can stay out in the sun indefinitely. But sunscreens aren’t like magic, and the longer you stay out, the higher your risk of sun damage – sunscreen or not!

Do I Really Need To Put On Sunscreen Every Day?

You can still get sunburnt on gloomy, rainy, and even winter days. You need protection from the sun every single day, not just for cancer prevention, but for general skin care too! This is why moisturiser with SPF is important.
