Remember you read it here first. Reclaimed Romance will be *big* this year – and for all the best reasons.
It’s cute, it’s fun, and you probably have a few pieces in your wardrobe that already suit the vibe. And the best part? It’s not a microtrend that will be over before you know it – the timeless nature of the trend means you’ll be wearing it again and again.
So what is reclaimed romance? We spoke to Nicole Adolphe, THE ICONICs Head of Style, to find out everything you need to know.
What is Reclaimed Romance
“The Reclaimed Romance trend is all about feminine looks and pastel colours,” Nicole explains. “Think shades of lavender, pink, soft yellow and mint in soft tailored suits, slip dresses, ruffles, sheer fabrics and lace detailing.”
Are there any celeb examples of the trend?
“If the edgier girl- like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber- are wearing Y2K-inspired looks (baggypants, crops or oversize track tops), the Reclaimed Romance trend is for the girl who wants to wear dresses and pastel colours with a touch of lace, ruffles, draping and fluid silky fabrics,” shares Nicole.
“Celebrities that come to mind for this style include Margot Robbie, Lily Collins, Sydney Sweeney and Blake Lively.”
Nicole’s tips on styling reclaimed romance with your existing wardrobe
- White is the perfect base colour to build your outfit. Pair a pastel piece of clothing (plain or printed) with a white or cream item. For example, pair a pastel top with white pants or a white shirt with a pastel skirt.
- Another way to style pastels is to mix tones. For example, two shades of blue together or two shades of pink, or pastel mixed with pastel is a great look. Try a baby blue top with lilac, mint or yellow.
- If you are looking for something new to buy or searching through your existing wardrobe, Lilac is the hero colour. For shoes and bags, try sticking with neutral shades like cream or pastel to match the look.
- If you’re looking to mix up your pastel look with something a bit tougher, try a boot or sneaker instead of a heel, or a tee and pants rather than a slip dress.
Will reclaimed romance stay in fashion?
“I think reclaimed romance has a more timeless feel to it because the looks are more wearable and relatable,” shares Nicole.
“Softer fabrications and draping also feel nice to wear and are a welcome change from bodycon cut-away dresses. The slip dress and bias cut slip skirt seen within this trend are a timeless piece that rarely changes shape. Pastels can also be timeless as they might not be on trend every season but they do come back almost every spring/summer. The pearl detailing that we are seeing this season on shoes, bags and jewellery is also timeless.”
