It may just go down as one of the most unforgettable runway shows in history.
Starting with one minute’s silence, celebrities and famous models such as Naomi Campbell, Monica Bellucci and Kaia Gerber gathered at the Grand Palais in Paris to witness Karl Lagerfeld’s final collection for Chanel.
The creative director of both Chanel and Fendi recently passed at the age of 85 due to ill-health.
The fashion visionary who was known for his elaborate and grand runways, had his legacy honoured through the fall 2019 show yesterday which was transformed into a winter wonderland.
Surprise guest and recently appointed Chanel house ambassador Penelope Cruz walked the runway holding a white rose as a tribute to the late designer.
Perhaps the most poignant moment, however, was the final walkout by the models (led by Cara Delevingne) who were visibly emotional as they came out hand-in-hand…
Watch the video of the moment below, with Anna Wintour sitting front row.
Karl’s presence was still felt though as each seat at the show had an illustrated card with a drawing of Karl and Chanel founder Coco Chanel with the words, “The beat goes on…”
A surreal moment for guests who watched as models showcased what were the last pieces he would ever design for Chanel….
What a memorable way to mark the end of fashion week.
