Kim Kardashian brings back iconic ‘90s runway looks

"You don't understand, this is an Alaïa."

First Thierry Mugler and then Alaïa, Kim Kardashian evokes ‘90s fashion by bringing back bold looks from iconic designers…

Taking a break from her usual normcore attire, Kardashian has recently been donning vintage runway looks from the nineties worn previously by supermodels such as Naomi Campbell.

The 38-year-old has become quite the runway-revival alchemist digging into designer archives and sporting one-of-a-kind ensembles that only someone of her long-standing influence could get their hands on.

The beauty mogul gave us a taste of “vintage high-fashion” on her Instagram posting this incredible head-to-toe leopard bodysuit by designer Azzedine Alaïa that she wore during Paris Fashion Week.

Captioned, You don’t understand…this is an Alaia”

Kim is referencing the famous pop culture film Clueless where the leading female character Cher is robbed at gunpoint wearing the French designer, she pleads with the robber “You don’t understand…this is an Alaia” to which the robber replies “An a whatta?!”… which leads us to Kardashian’s second Alaïa look which she posted a few days later…

This time, an incredible black, cheetah print catsuit teamed with a black beret. Also, very Cher Horowitz.

An a whatta?!”

The other iconic couture looks come from designer, Thierry Mugler.

Who could forget THAT jaw-dropping bondage, cut-out dress that Kardashian debuted at the 5th Annual Hollywood Beauty Awards…

The revealing gown was from Mugler’s Spring/Summer ’98 collection.

Kardashian followed that up with two other bold Thierry Mugler designs.

The second and third Mugler instalments took the form of an ‘80’s-inspired (with futuristic undertones) strapless mini dress and then a shimmery, nude Grecian-style gown with a gold corset that she wore to the Thierry Mugler exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Kardashian recently came under fire when people accused the beauty mogul of having her husband’s designs replicated by cheap brands who were ripping off the styles at an extremely fast rate and at the morsel of the price to which the businesswoman swiftly responded – I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.” And “My relationships with designers are very important to me. It’s taken me over a decade to build them and I have a huge amount of respect for the amount of work that they put into bringing their ideas to life.”

In the current Kardashian-obsessed and trend-driven era, Kim is trying hard to emphasise the exploitation from fast fashion brands and the possible risk this inflicts on the relationships with high-end designers that she has worked so hard to cultivate.

“going through old fitting pics & found this gold look that Kanye made for me for my Miami trip last summer (I went w the neon vibes instead) P.S. fast fashion brands, can you please wait until I wear this in real life before you knock it off? 😂”

We eagerly await more vintage runway ensembles from Kardashian…
