Looking equal parts stylish and strong, she speaks candidly about her personal life with friend Oprah who interviewed her for the cover story.

Wearing all Dior on the cover, Michelle is styled in an all-white look with a collared shirt, a white skirt (which she swings in an almost Marylin Monroe-esque way) with a black leather corset on top. The most beautiful part of her look though, that signature warm Michelle Obama smile.

Women are making a mark on music, art, politics (and the world in general) now more than ever, so seeing a powerful (yet humble) woman with a strong moral compass like Michelle Obama on the cover of a fashion-centric magazine at this time is not only refreshing but encouraging.

Michelle is the epitome of what defines a 2018-woman, kind, beautiful in her own way, intelligent and has a modest sense of self.

Don’t let the power and prestige of her life fool you though, Michelle Obama came from humble beginnings as the daughter of working-class parents, she tells Oprah, “My mom didn’t go to the hairdresser. She didn’t buy herself new clothes. My father was a shift worker. I could see my parents sacrificing for us.”

Editor-in-Chief of ELLE magazine Nina Garcia says of Michelle on Instagram: “Thank you @MichelleObamafor sharing your very personal struggles as a wife, mother and First Lady with @elleusa. You inspire women everywhere to embrace their own journeys.”

With Editor-in-Chief of ELLE magazine and Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia.

“I understood the power of what I wore,” she told me. “I needed to make choices to give people a platform to show their work, to create more diversity, to highlight women as much as I could. And I worked with designers that I thought were kind people. I listened behind the scenes. How did they treat their staff? How did they treat my staff? All of that goes into the clothes you wear. I want to carry positivity. So all of that mattered.”
