The Hills superfans, this one’s for you.
The highly-anticipated reboot of the reality show and pop culture phenomenon that guided us through early womanhood in the early aughts to the sound of Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” against the idyllic backdrop of L.A sunsets and beaches, is almost here…
To celebrate its welcome return, the OG crew (along with an exciting new cast member) have graced the latest issue of Cosmopolitan magazine and we.are.here.for.it.
Fans kept the nostalgia alive and so repeats of the hit show started to play on our screens again. MTV took notice, quenching the reality thirst of loyal viewers who were asking for a reboot for years!
Now, the girls are back, with babies, husbands and more…drama?
However, there’s a plot twist we did not expect, the show’s protagonist Lauren Conrad and her arch nemesis Kristin Cavallari were not coming back.
We didn’t know how to feel about the two main cast members who were the CORE of our beloved Hills, not joining the reunion. Whose boyfriend would Kristin steal? Who would be there for Heidi and Audrina guiding them through their tumultuous love lives and life journeys?
The article says, “Notably missing are semi-villain Kristin Cavallari—she has her own reality show on E! called Very Cavallari (Heidi is actually a big fan)—and OG Laguna Beach veteran Lauren Conrad, who parlayed her reality-TV fame into a full-on lifestyle brand of beachy dresses, chia-pudding recipes, and millennial-pink bedding.”
Whitney Port tells Cosmo “succinctly” –“They’re not part of the story line,” OK Whitney, we get it. No need to rub salt in our wounds.
Look, we were emotionally invested, BUT we totally support your next endeavours girls, go forth and conquer.
Rumours then starting swirling about a “famous actress” filling the LC and KC void. MTV remained tight-lipped about who the starlet was going to be which further hyped fans – clever marketing guys.
The Hills came at the tail end of cult T.V show, The O.C which was centred around the scandalous lives of young teens going to school in L.A and due to its popularity, MTV was inspired to create a reality show based on this concept, and so Laguna Beach was born and The Hills followed.
So, when the two worlds collided and it was revealed that the new girl in town was going to be, Mischa Barton, fans lost it.
Yep, Marissa Cooper from The O.C. – this irony is not lost on us.
MTV – you geniuses.
The four girls who will now make up The Hills: New Beginnings Audrina Partridge, Whitney Port, Heidi Pratt and Mischa Barton will be joined by original cast members, Brody Jenner, Stephanie Pratt, Frankie Delgado, Justin (Bobby) Brescia, and reformed bad boy, Jason Wahler.
We cannot wait to see how it will all unfold…
