A graduation is one of those special occasions that we are all likely to attend at some stage or other in life but no one ever really talks about how to dress for such an event.
It’s not like a wedding where the general rule if you’re a female is never wear white, or that black is usually worn to funerals, or that you should wear a fascinator to the races.
So we’ve broken down some handy hints and tricks of mothers, parents, friends alike, to help you work out what to wear to a graduation.
No matter what type of graduation it is –school, university, or even kindergarten – it’s safe to say that smart casual is what you’re aiming for as a guest of the graduate’s.
Keep in mind that it may involve spending some time outdoors, perhaps even on grass, so you need to dress appropriately.
Shoes should we sensible but nice and it’s probably best to make sure you’ve got something with you to protect you from the elements in the shape of a shawl or jacket.
As for outfits, think along the lines of what you would wear to a garden wedding or a high tea, rather than a casual dress.
Not overly formal but still something that makes you feel good and shows you’ve put some effort in – a nice graduation dress or even a pretty blouse with dress pants.
