Best coffee in London for your daily fix

Take a break from Royal Baby mania and grab a flat white at one of these cool cafes

IT may have the history, culture, architecture and music but it was once almost impossible to find a quality espresso in the buzzing metropolis that is London.

Fortunately, there are now a slew of antipodean-style cafes and artisan coffee shops across the city so it is possible to get your beloved flat white whilst on holidays in the British capital.

If you’re headed to London for the Euro summer – or to attempt to catch a peek of Harry and Meghan’s new addition – here are a few of our favourite places for a brew:

Kaffeine

For a strong flat white, it’s hard to go past this Fitzrovia gem.

Inspired by the café culture in Australia and New Zealand, this busy independent café and espresso bar can be found at two locations in Fitzrovia  – on Titchfield Street and Eastcastle Street – and won’t disappoint. They also have coffee-obsessed staff and serve excellent food.

We recommend the brioche with baked egg, plum tomato, feta, avocado, aioli and baby spinach. Delightful.

Flat White

One of the first antipodean-style venues in London, this Soho institution was established in 2005 and has since been a haven for Aussie and Kiwi expats and travellers to get their fix in the capital.

This hot spot, the brainchild of Aussie Peter Hall and New Zealanders, James Gurnsey and Cameron McClure, serves all-day breakfasts and killer espresso coffee.

Allpress Espresso

HAVING outgrown their original location on Shoreditch’s Redchurch Street, Allpress moved their roastery to an old joiner’s factory in Dalston.

Filled with natural light and charm, this reimagined space is now a split-level café and the Allpress’ UK base for roasting, barista training and serving locals and visitors seriously great coffee.

Federation Coffee

There are a few good coffee places in this southeast locale but for a great atmosphere and equally good brew head to Federation.

Located in a prime corner spot at the lively Brixton Market, amongst the slew of buzzing eateries, Federation’s Kiwi owners use a bespoke blend roasted at a nearby market for their famous espresso coffee.

Caravan

WITH its hipster warehouse vibe, the King’s Cross outpost of the Caravan venues across London is definitely our pick.

Located in the Granary building, which also houses famed arts and fashion college Central St Martins – famous alumni include Stella McCartney and Zac Posen – this is the ideal spot for an espresso, cold-drip, their signature brunch and people watching.
