IN a world first, Uber and Tourism and Events Queensland have launched a rideshare submarine experience on the Great Barrier Reef.
scUber, launched on Heron Island, off the coast of Gladstone in the Southern Barrier Reef, on May 23 and will be available through the Uber app next week.
A one-hour scUber ride will cost $1500 per person and passengers will be able to dive to depths of 30 metres with 180-degree views of the Heritage Listed wonder in the three-person, battery-powered submarine.
The bucket-list ride will operate from Heron Island from May 27 for two weeks before moving to Agincourt Reef, off the coast of Port Douglas, from June 9 to 18.
The epic submarine experience – which can take two passangers and one pilot – also includes a return scenic helicopter ride and a return trip back to the original pick-up addresss with Uber.
The scUber launch marks Uber’s partnership with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, which is committed to the protection and conservation of the world’s largest ecosystem.
Fares from the scUber program will be donated to the organisation in a bid to help their ongoing conservation efforts.
