A solo girl’s guide to Las Vegas

With world-class dining, wellness immersions and Gaga herself, the entertainment capital is also a hot destination for female travellers.

LAS Vegas is known for its nightlife, strip of luxurious hotels and the finest casinos but that doesn’t mean you need to be a black jack queen to experience the best this vibrant city has to offer.

Sure, the mere thought of solo travel can be daunting but it can also be liberating – especially on the East Coast, where the cultural and commercial hub of the US state of Nevada is the perfect place to mingle with new people, experience world-class dining and have a whole lot of fun.

STAY

It is hard to go past sentimental Vegas favourite, The Palazzo at The Venetian for a sweet stay.

The spacious rooms, comfortable bedding and the fact that the resort has more than 40 restaurants to choose from means there’s something for everyone.

Before you even leave the hotel, make your way around the awe-inspiring property, which includes 70 different types of finishes and thousands of tonnes of stone and marble.

If you’re into a more subtle sleeping experience, NoMad Las Vegas, a hotel within a hotel at the Park MGM, is the ideal place to rest.

The boutique-style rooms, which boast timeless European furnishings and a bathtub a mere two steps away from the bedhead, are bound to please the most discerning travellers.

EAT

When you’re Vegas-bound, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to dining.

Brunch options are aplenty but for a top-notch, all-American upmarket diner experience, book in advance at the swanky Sadelle’s at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino.

Come lunchtime, Chica celebrates the vibrant flavours of Latin American cuisine, boasting a selection of wines from across the globe and a mixology program exclusive to The Venetian.

For an authentic Chinese dining experience, Mott 32, a contemporary restaurant located at The Palazzo’s casino floor tops the list. The menu is inspired by Hong Kong’s culinary traditions, with a modern twist.

PLAY

Don’t leave Vegas without treating yourself to a spectacular show.

Some of the world’s greatest singers have residencies in Vegas including Lady Gaga, who shows off her vocal prowess in her Enigma show at Park MGM.

Whether you can recite every word to Shallow, or are simply there to witness a stage production that includes classical instruments, killer dance moves and THAT voice – admittedly, it is also a people-watching extravaganza – the Grammy-Award winner delivers on all fronts.

DRINK

Reality TV star Lisa Vanderpump has made a name for herself in the bar scene and, much like her LA establishment featured on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Cocktail Garden is worth a visit.

The hotspot, located inside Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, opened earlier this year and includes a list of her signature cocktails and finger food to line your stomach ahead of a big night out.

Less than a 10-minute Uber ride away is retro-themed bar Rosina, which is decked out with greenery and almost feels like an oasis in the midst of noisy crowds.

The retro-themed bar, located at The Palazzo, has experienced bartenders on hand to create a cocktail or drink to suite every taste.

FITNESS

When you feel like your body is yearning to detox after indulging in too much divine food and one too many cocktails, swing past SoulCycle for an intense but supportive group spin class session.

The fitness classes, located at The Wynn, a prestigious hotel on the Vegas strip, run for 45 minutes, and involve a mixture of hand weights and cardio.

It’s a good way to meet people and, if it’s good enough for the likes of Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, it’s good enough for us!

EXPLORE

For a breathtaking view of one of the seven wonders of the world, look no further than a helicopter flight over Grand Canyon National Park.

Maverick’s Wind Dancer Tour offers a 90-minute round-trip, which covers some of the Canyon’s most magnificent offerings including Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. Halfway through the journey, the chopper descends below the Canyon’s West Rim into the native Hualapai lands to take a closer look.

A light snack and Champagne toast with views directly above the Colorado River will keep your spirits high!

SHOP

If you’d like to take home a little holiday purchase and plan on spending big, you’ve got to make your way to The Shops At Crystals and experience the only all-luxury shopping destination in the US. With stores like YSL, Bulgari and Brunello Cucinelli, it’s of little wonder Bruno Mars and J.Lo have shopped up a storm here previously.
