WHEN it comes to booking accommodation in Sydney, the choice is overwhelming. From luxury chain hotels, to unique boutique accommodation and budget hostels – there really is something for everyone.
Recently, my husband and I had a staycation at the recently renovated Larmont Sydney by Lancemore. When out-of-towners ask for hotel recommendations, I automatically think of Bondi or a harbourside property but the Larmont’s location in Potts Point, shouldering Kings Cross and just seconds away from Woolloomooloo Wharf, Paddington and Double Bay, really is the best positioning for a short or long stay.
Tucked away on a quiet, leafy street, Larmont is unassuming. Formerly the Diamant Hotel, Lancemore Group CEO Julian Clark travelled around the world visiting 100 boutique hotels in 20 countries for inspiration before beginning the dramatic transformation.
The result is a property that is less hotel-like and more fashionable-friends-place, where we immediately feel at home.
We’re greeted on a Friday afternoon by polite and welcoming staff and after an easy check-in process, we’re directed to our room.
Our oversized room with a separate lounge and bedroom is more than we expect. It’s luxurious in design, thanks to acclaimed interior design studio Hassel, with minimalist, modern furnishings and a hero bath. A window wraps around the entire side of the accommodation, providing views of the harbour. We spot a coffee machine and a big, lush, pillow top bed that comes with a pillow menu.
In the centre of the bathroom is the freestanding bath – a perfect spot for a bit of solo movie watching, I should add.
There’s also a Smart TV, Apple TV with Netflix and Bose Sound Touch docks. The colour scheme is mostly neutral, with touches of purple and it’s warm and inviting – as are the robes we spy hanging in the cupboard.
We sit in the balconette window chair and relax looking out over the harbour with a glass of Champagne, a welcome gift from the hotel.
We reluctantly leave our luxurious surroundings and head out for dinner nearby, later returning to watch a movie in bed.
In the morning, it’s an easy stroll to the cafes of Potts Point or into Five Ways, Paddington.
This truly is the quintessential Sydney hotel and it’ll be my top recommendation for travellers from now on.
