While the coupling may come as a shock to some— seeing as Natasha was matched with groom Mikey Pembroke on the show— the ladies are said to have sought comfort in each other after they both had terrible experiences on the reality program.
“It was a pretty dark time for both girls, but they found comfort in one another which helped to soften the blow,” a close friend said. “When you’re on a show like that, you become very isolated from the world so tend to rely heavily on those around you who have an understanding of the complex issues.”
Despite getting far more intimate for the cameras than they ever did while filming with their respective husband and wife, their relationship was a slow burn.
“Tash was pretty broken after that whole experience and it’s taken her a long time to get back on her feet again,” the friend dished, adding she was "emotionally scarred" after her relationship with her on-screen wife deteriorated.
“The marriage with Amanda may have been brief, but there was damage. Tash needed time to get over that and Natasha has really helped that.”
Natasha also had a tough time during the experiment.
According to New Idea insiders, Tash and hubby Mikey were sent packing two-thirds of the way into filming, with her deteriorating mental health being the reason behind her shock exit.
“I have had a lot of things happen in my past, which were brought up on the show, which is the reason I left,” said Natasha, adding producers coerced her into revealing intimate details about her upbringing, despite the fact she said she wasn't willing to do so.
“Things happened in my childhood, which I didn’t want brought up. I was just anxious. Childhood trauma is nothing we can control and it was wrong of them to bring it up."
It's believed the circumstances became so dire, Natasha began suffering terrible panic attacks. That's when she finally knew it was time to pull the pin on her marriage to this season's resident larrikin.
“I had a panic attack on there because I had a failing relationship and production was pushing me to tell [her husband Mikey’s] parents what a terrible partner he was. I lost it and started crying.”
The stunning 26-year-old also told the outlet she cracked under the pressure of having to film for a minimum of 15 hours a day.
After noticing she was struggling and spiralling out of control, MAFS showrunners knew she needed help and even suggested she should be hospitalised.
“If that happened the show wouldn’t have been able to go to air so [the producers] cut their losses and took her off the show to save the show,” a contestant told New Idea, asking for their identity to remain a mystery.
While their co-stars and MAFS bosses alike were deeply worried about Natasha's downfall, Mikey, on the other hand, is now reeling about being "unfairly" booted off the show. He also blames the experts for matching the pair in the first place!
“I don’t know how I can be kicked off the show when I haven’t done anything wrong,” he said in the 12-second clip obtained by New Idea. “I’ve given myself 100 per cent to the experiment... they think she’s not well. Well, it’s like they’ve f--king given me the wrong person. Such a stitch-up.”
