Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller will be staying in jail for a little while longer.
Despite receiving an early release date of February 20 after entering prison for a one year sentence for bankruptcy fraud in July last year, the reality TV star is still serving her time in Federal Correctional Complex in Victorville, California.
According to prison coach Jennifer Myer’s the delay in Miller’s release date is due to a change in prison protocol.
“Basically, the prisons pay for the inmates to go to halfway houses,” Myers told ET. “In the past, let’s say each warden had a budget for eight halfway house beds per month, they were often releasing 20 women to beds instead, because they wanted to help get them out.”
But now the director of prisons is cracking down.
“A warden has to approve a halfway house release,” Myers continues. “Abby got her official out date, it was Feb. 20. She received that piece of paper that told her that and that she would be going to the halfway house in Van Nuys. You have to make those plans in advance. But clearly, the prison went over budget so she could no longer be released.”
51-year-old Miller is upset over the delay, Myers says.
“Abby just didn’t get out, that’s how she found out about it,” she says. “It was a pretty upsetting thing for her over the weekend to not be able to talk to anybody and find out what was happening.”
On February 20, the day Miller was supposed to be released, the dance director shared a motivational Instagram post about being a survivor.
“I’m surviving because the fire inside me burns brighter than the fire around me 🔥🔥,” she wrote.
