Shock news for Gogglebox fans, with producers officially confirming that two of the most popular households featured on the hit show are leaving.
Angie and Yvie and Wayne and Tom are officially out, following a recent series of comments by the duos that indicated they were thinking of moving on.
‘After eight amazing seasons, Angie and Yvie and Wayne and Tom have decided to switch off their TVs and farewell Gogglebox,’ the show announced.
‘We wish you all the best and thank you for all your incredible TV watching.’
Angie and Yvie have commented in the past that compensation for appearing on the show was extremely low, and Angie recently spoke about leaving Sydney, where Yvie lives.
Wayne and Tom have also been showing some signs of disquiet, with Tom earlier this year saying he wanted out.
‘I’ve had a lot of fun. And I think it’s just time,’ he said. ‘Me and Wayne are ready to retire. We’re ready to buy a farm and go bush.’
When Angie and Yvie recently spoke to WHO’s TV podcast, Binge List, they revealed the show had had a major impact on their lives.
‘When men say, “Where do I know you from?”, I go, do you watch porn?’ revealed Yvie. ‘Well that’s where you know me from!’
But it hasn’t all been fun and games. One comment left Angie left her in hot water, and unhappy with Gogglebox bosses for letting it go to air. Describing comedian Dave Hughes as ‘one of the ugliest people I’ve ever seen’, the moment angered Hughes enough that he struck back with his own very unpleasant label for the Gogglebox star.
Speaking on the matter, Angie told Binge List she was upset with herself for making the unkind jibe, for which she has publicly apologised.
‘I made a dreadful mistake that keeps being brought up,’ she said, when asked on the podcast if she’d said anything on the show she now regrets.
‘I’m surprised you haven’t just thrown it in my face right now. I called someone something that I shouldn’t have. And that upset me, but I apologise and I know never to use the word ugly again.
‘We’ve been really lucky except for that one incident. And then everything else is usually so fun and light-hearted.’
Whatever their reasons for leaving, both duos will be missed.
