Lady Gaga has released a statement following her breakup from fiancé Taylor Kinney.
“Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break,” the singer confirmed on Instagram on July 19 with a black and white photo of the pair with their arms wrapped around each other.
“We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other,” the Born This Way singer wrote.
The Chicago Fire actor popped the question to the pop star in 2015 on Valentine’s Day with a heart-shaped Lorraine Schwartz ring after four years together. “I really can’t imagine being with anyone other than who I’m with right now,” the singer told Howard Stern right before the proposal. “He is the right guy. I have that feeling. I just know it.”
The couple have always been very supportive of each other’s careers. At the Golden Globes this year, Gaga, 30, revealed Kinney, 35, turned down the opportunity to take the stage at the award ceremony to make sure all eyes were on her.
“Do you want to know something wonderful?” she gushed to WHO. “They asked him to present tonight, but he said no because he just wanted it to be my night and he wanted to support me. Isn’t that special? I just found that out. I love him so much.”
Earlier this year, Kinney told WHO he and the Grammy winner were keeping their wedding plans “a surprise.” He also attended the Academy Awards with Gaga, who gave an emotional performance of her song Til It Happens to You.
“I never thought anyone would ever love me because I felt like my body was ruined by my abuser. But he loves the survivor in me. He’s stood by me all night proudly and unashamedly. THAT’S a real man,” Gaga captioned an Instagram photo of the duo afterwards.
Gaga is currently vacationing in Cabo with friends and is no longer sporting her engagement ring.
