Iconic singer Lizzo broke down in tears on live TV as she accepted her first ever Emmy Award at the 74th Primetime Emmys for her show Watch Out for The Big Grrrls.

Her reality dance competition show took out the award for Outstanding Competition Program and Lizzo took to the stage with an impassioned and empowering acceptance speech.
Dressed in a huge, red tulle gown the singer told the crowd of A-listers: “When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media. Someone fat like me. Black like me. Beautiful like me.
“If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I’d be ‘you’re gonna see that person, but, bitch, it’s gonna have to be you!'”
Breaking into tears on stage, her powerful comments were met with thunderous cheers and applause from the crowd.
Lizzo also called the dancers from Watch Out for The Big Grrrls on stage with her, many of them representing more diverse body types than have ever been seen on such a massive awards show stage before.
The singer is now halfway to EGOT status, having earned an Emmy and Grammy award, and the significance of it wasn’t lost on her.
But as her win was announced and the camera panned to her, Lizzo looked more shocked than anything – and nervous to follow actress Sheryl Lee Ralph’s acceptance speech, which earned her a standing ovation.

Others took to social media to celebrate the star’s win, saying it was a massive moment for “fat, Black, beautiful” women like Lizzo everywhere.
“Lizzo really deserved that! I loveeeddddd every minute of her show, it was so uplifting to watch,” one wrote.
The show championed diverse body types and self-love, something Lizzo has been vocally championing for years now.
Other fans were more interested in her outfit though, calling the singer one of the best-dressed stars on the night.
Lizzo arrived in a huge tulle gown in a vibrant shade of scarlet, accessorising with strappy heels and minimal jewellery.
She wore her hair in a high bun and went for an understated yet glamorous makeup look.
Fans kept an eye out for her on the red carpet but the star showed up fashionably late and didn’t pose for pictures, instead sharing a series of snaps on her Instagram account.
