This brother and sister team from Perth are best friends, with a shared love of three things – “gym, tan, laundry.”
“But as much as we love our ‘GTL’, family is definitely number one,” says Amanda, 29, a customer service manager.
“We want to make them proud.”
The siblings admit they didn’t come from a wealthy family, but say their parents instilled in them a great work ethic – something that will stand them in good stead for the competition.
“There were five of us in a two-bedroom house. I shared a room with my brother. Amanda was with mum and dad. And dad worked 15 hour days to put food on the table for us,” says Blake, 32, whose dream is to take a food truck across the country.
“We’re so lucky they instilled in us from a very young age that you can’t get anything from nothing,” says Amanda, whose own dream is to open a restaurant.
Expect the unexpected with these two, who admit they’re here to have some fun.
“Our food resembles our personality – pretty crazy, pretty wild, pretty fun, super colourful,” says Blake, who currently works in business development.
“And delicious!” adds Amanda. “People will underestimate us I think.”
Amanda admits her biggest challenge will be surrendering control as they battle it out in the stressful, fast-paced competition.
“I like to know what’s going on and I have certain ways and like routines of doing things,” she admits. “I feel flustered when that gets messed with!
“[I’m] somewhat of a control freak at times. But other than that, I’m bubbly, outgoing, caring, funny. I’m always up for a laugh and a good time…[but] I can be a little sarcastic sometimes and can have a dry, naughty sense of humour – but my intentions are always good.”
