What will the weather be on NYE and New Year’s Day across Australia?

At least, that’s our motto when it comes to planning for a New Years Eve and New Years Day.

This year, Accuweather is predicting we’ll experience pretty mild weather across Australia on the last day of 2025 and first day of 2026, perfect for getting together with friends and toasting another year.

While it can be hard to 100% predict what the weather will do, or where the temperatures will fall, but here’s what the weather forecast currently looks like across Australia’s major cities for December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026.

  • 31 December: Warm with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of isolated showers.
  • 1 January: Warm and mostly cloudy with a slight chance of isolated rain.
  • Temperatures: 20–28°C, with scattered showers possible.

Melbourne

Melbourne
  • 31 December: Mild to warm day, partly cloudy.
  • 1 January: Similar conditions to the 31st, with mostly sunny or partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures.
  • Temperatures: 24–29°C with more settled weather and a lower chance of widespread rain.

Brisbane

  • 31 December: Warm to hot and humid, very little chance of rain or thunder.
  • 1 January: Warm and humid again.
  • Temperatures: 20-29°C.

Canberra

  • 1 January: Warm and generally fine, with typical summer warmth.
  • Temperatures: 13-28°C.
