As Perth shoppers eagerly await their first Costco store, the American retail giant has confirmed they’re planning to build for a second WA store in Perth’s southern suburbs.
In February it was announced the US company and Perth Airport worked together to create Perth’s first Costco warehouse in the airport precinct.
And now Costco Australia’s managing director has officially announced they’re focussing on a second store and a third will soon follow in the future.
Speaking to Today Tonight Patrick Noone revealed: “Not only this one, one in the south.”
“Long-term, perhaps in the north as well, but certainly there are two buildings at this point in time that we’re looking at.”
Costco stores are successfully running in NSW, VIC, SA, QLD and Canberra at the moment. The chain store offers items at discounted prices and has proven to be popular with Australian customers.
Members who – pay up to $60 a year – are able to shop at the company’s warehouses, finding anything from diamonds, to cake, to furniture at a low cost.
“Costco in Perth and it’s going to change everything about retail in Perth,” Mr Noone added.
“There’s such a thing as the ‘Costco effect’, when we come into a market not only do we offer a new form of retailing that no one else is doing, but we also bring a lot of competition to the marketplace and it forces our competitors to react as well.”
No doubt about that!
